Abide by the rules, urges ANLFA secretary general Malvin Khumalo

ALEXANDRA -– 'Let's all endeavour to ensure that we come out of this situation alive'.

In the midst of Alexandra residents’ defiance of the lockdown regulations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the secretary-general of the Alexandra Northrand Local Football Association Malvin Khumalo gave some advice.

He urged the soccer fraternity including the community at large to abide by government orders so ‘we can all come out of this situation alive to live our lives and enjoy our football thereafter’.

Khumalo was speaking after more than 10 people were arrested in Alex on the first day of the curfew on 27 March for drinking alcohol in public spaces which has been prohibited. Some KwaMadala Hostel dwellers were also arrested for ignoring the orders.

“My appeal to the football fraternity, coaches, players, referees and parents of these players, is to act in a responsible manner and follow the guidelines that have been issued by the government as part of the measures to fight this pandemic and ensure that we stay home but only go out when in need of essential items such as food, medical attention and grant collections,” he said.

“I urge all of you to stay safe and healthy by also eating fruit and foods that boost your immune systems such as oranges, lemons, broccoli, green and red peppers, and garlic to ensure our bodies are well armed to fight the disease. We should also complement this with exercise as well.”

As things stood now, Khumalo said it was no longer a fight to avoid infection but it was now a battle to ensure people survived the pandemic.

“Always remember that it’s not the virus that travels but it’s us who transport it from one person to the other and from one region to another. We, therefore, need to act responsibly and keep indoors and avoid unnecessary contact with outsiders and crowds in shopping malls and other spaces that attract large groups of people.”
