Operation O Kae Molao nabs more than 700 suspects in Joburg in one day

JOBURG – Some of the arrested suspects have been on the Gauteng police’s list of wanted suspects.


More than 700 suspects were arrested by the South African Police Service and other law enforcement agencies in various places in Johannesburg during operation O Kae Molao yesterday, 26 March.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele said that some of the arrested suspects have been on the Gauteng police’s list of wanted suspects who have committed serious and violent crimes. These include murder, car-jacking, armed robbery, rape, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, dealing in drugs, fraud and other crimes.

“The Gauteng Districts Commissioners and the Johannesburg Metro Police Department led various law enforcement agencies in Ivory Park and Johannesburg among other areas, where they recovered eight stolen vehicles and closed four illegal liquor outlets.”

Makhubele said that the team also the arrested suspects who were found to be in possession of unlicensed firearms, drugs, dagga, and explosives. There were 91 suspects arrested for gender-based violence.

“Operations were also conducted in Johannesburg where the main focus was to ensure that second-hand goods dealerships comply with the relevant act and that no illegal activities are taking place,” explained Makhubele.

The Gauteng police management thanked all of the community members who continue to work with the police in combating crime.
