Stop-and-search leads to arrest of suspect in Marshalltown

MARSHALLTOWN – The suspect saw the police and turned in a different direction to avoid them.

The Johannesburg Central police’s stop-and-search duties continue to lead to positive results.

A 29-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on the corner of Commissioner and Von Wielligh streets, Marshalltown on 20 March.

Spokesperson for Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele said that local police were on duty when they noticed a suspicious male. “When he saw the police, he changed direction and he was cornered. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm with no serial number and live rounds. He failed to produce a license to possess a firearm.”

Police are investigating and the firearm has been sent for ballistic testing to determine if it has been was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes.
