Johannesburg Flying Squad police nab 16 suspects for different crimes

JOHANNESBURG – Working together with the community led to these recoveries.


The Johannesburg Flying Squad recovered an AK-47 during their routine patrol and arrested 16 suspects in different parts of the city.

Officers also recovered a CZ 100 pistol with ammunition as well as eight vehicles.

According to the spokesperson for the unit, senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo, the recovered vehicles were reported stolen and others hijacked.

Sambo said the arrests were made between 15 and 17 February during routine patrols.

“Among the 16 suspects arrested, three of them were for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, seven for possession of hijacked vehicles and six for possession of drugs,” added Sambo.

“Out of the eight vehicles recovered, six were recovered hijacked and they include a white Renault Clio, blue BMW, white BMW, blue Mercedes- Benz GLC, grey Audi S3 and a white Range Rover Evoque and two vehicles that were stolen are a silver VW Polo and a gold Toyota Fortuner. Investigation continues in all cases.”

Working together with the community led to these recoveries, he added.

Sambo said the police appreciated the public for their contribution and added that the public could contact them for any information regarding the vehicles.

All the suspects are expected to appear soon in different magistrates’ courts facing various charges.
