Man sentenced to life imprisonment after killing JMPD officer

HILLBROW – Metro Police officer Dingaan Neludani was shot and killed in September 2018.

A murder suspect who shot and killed a Metro police officer, Dingaan Neludani in Hillbrow on the 13 September 2018 was sentenced on 27 January in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court to life imprisonment.

Metro police Senior Superindent Wayne Minnaar said the man had his murder sentence added to sentences of 33 years and 25 years for house robberies in the Cleveland area.

“The officer who was off duty, went to Hillbrow in his private capacity soon after a tour of duty, where he was attacked, shot and robbed of his service pistol,” said Minnaar in a statement.

After the incident Metro police chief David Tembe announced a ‘code red’, meaning an intensive search for the suspect was conducted by Metro police officers. Officers and members of the public found the suspect hiding in the basement of a building.

Tembe said the heavy sentence sent a strong message. “This heavy prison sentence must serve as a deterrent to any other criminal who may want to attack and kill a member of the community, or any law enforcement officer, whether the officer is on or off duty.”

People on social media applauded the tough sentence:
