Two suspects arrested by Flying Squad police for serious crimes

JOHANNESBURG – The suspects are allegedly involved in robbing people after withdrawing larger amount of cash from different banks.


A joint operation between the Johannesburg Flying Squad, the Metro police and security companies led to the arrest of two men on 14 January suspected of terrorising banking customers.

It is alleged that the two suspects are involved in a string of robberies around Johannesburg, Pretoria, Kempton Park, Bedfordview and West Rand areas.

According to the police, the suspects are allegedly involved in robbing people after withdrawing large amounts of cash from different banks.

Johannesburg Flying Squad’s spokesperson, senior personnel officer Raymond Sambo, said the two were arrested following a tip-off.

Members followed up on information of a White Mercedes Benz vehicle believed to be used in the commission of a crime, said Sambo. “The vehicle was spotted at Westgate Mall and visual observations were kept until they moved to Key West Shopping Centre where they were busy scouting for possible targets.

“Our operation involved our unit, crime intelligence, JMPD K9, Tracker Connect and Guardians Security. When they noticed the police, they drove away and a chase ensued and they were then cornered at Wolkberg and Kouga streets in Noordhuewel in Krugersdorp.”

They were both placed under arrest and on searching their vehicle, two unlicensed 9mm firearms with ammunitions (Girsan and Taurus with numbers filed off) were recovered, he added.

Preliminary investigation revealed that their vehicle was robbed from the owner and was taken to SAP 13 and Sambo said the investigation still continues.
