Jeppe man kills girlfriend and hangs himself

JEPPESTOWN – The couple leaves behind an eight-year-old child.

Jeppe police are investigating a case of murder and opened an inquest after two deceased bodies of a male and female were discovered in a house in Belgravia, Jeppestown on 15 January.

It is not clear what the motive is but the spokesperson for the Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyayi, said an investigation is under way.

According to Munyayi, police were called to a scene after they were informed about the situation by a relative.

He said when the officers arrived, a female was lying on the floor while her boyfriend was found hanging from the roof after he had allegedly hanged himself.

“It is alleged that the boyfriend stabbed the women 11 times and killed her and he then hanged himself,” said Munyayi.

“It is still not clear what happened but a note was left behind which is in the family’s possession. Preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased boyfriend called his brother earlier on but by the time he got there, it was already too late.”

The couple leaves behind an eight-year-old child who, according to Munyayi, is in KwaZulu-Natal.
