City of Joburg wants to ensure inner-city is clean by the end of March 2020
JOBURG – The Mayoral committee were out on their numbers in the inner city engaging residents to keep their spaces clean.
The City of Johannesburg Mayoral Committee responsible for a clean environment was out on the streets in the inner-city on 4 January.
This is part of the campaign KleenaJoburg to ensure the inner-city is clean by the end of March this year.
Joburg member of the Mayoral Committee, councillor Mpho Moerane said, “We want to make sure that the city is very clean. We are busy with the 100-day programme and ensuring by the end of March 2020 the city is very clean.”
Pikitup managing director Bukelwa Njingolo said the clean-up campaign hoped to ensure that communities in the inner- city kept their spaces clean.

Johannesburg Executive Mayor Geoff Makhubo was also present during the clean-up operation and he talked to hawkers, traders and business owners on sustaining a litter-free business area.

Makhubo said the aim of the campaign was to also change the attitude of residents towards waste, waste management and illegal dumping. “If you dump, the health hazard comes back to you and [affects] the broader community.”
