Police arrest six suspects after woman was fatally killed in Bramley

BRAMLEY – The hijacking which took place in Bramley, the police immediately launched a 72-hour reaction plan which led to the arrest of six suspects in Alexandra.


Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela welcomed the arrest of six suspects after a 45-year old woman was shot and killed during a hijacking on the corner of Dublin and Cunning roads in Bramley on 15 November. 

The spokesperson for Gauteng police, Captain Kay Makhubele said a joint operation was launched immediately after the hijacking which involved the police, the Johannesburg Flying Squad and Metro police. They mobilised maximum resources with a 72-hour reaction plan and embarked on an intelligence-driven operation that led police to a tavern on 4th Avenue in Alexandra.

The task team was given a video clip which was shared on social media of the incident in which they were able to identify four suspects. They pounced on the tavern and were able to apprehend 17 suspects while an unconfirmed number managed to escape.

Police were able to link six men to the hijacking, the remaining eleven were released as they could not be linked to any crimes,  added Makhuele.

Further investigations linked the six suspects to three business robberies in Alexandra. The suspects are set to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on charges of murder and hijacking.
