JOHANNESBURG CENTRAL  – The investigation is under way and the suspect will appear soon at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

According to a released statement by the South African Police Service, police arrested a 39-year-old man for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at the corner of Claim and Noord streets on 6 November.

“Police were busy with their routine crime prevention foot patrols when they saw a suspicious male changing direction. They stopped and searched him. They recovered an unlicensed firearm with no serial number and live rounds. He failed to produce a licence to possess a firearm,” read the statement.

The police said the firearm would be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes.
