Sandringham High School’s principal still not back at school after car accident

SANDRINGHAM – The department has no proper plans to deal with the school's situation.

The School Governing Body of Sandringham High School revealed that the school was in dire financial straits.

It said they were struggling to pay the municipal bills and the institution’s power and water were frequently cut off.

Coupled with this, the school has no permanent headmaster after incumbent principal Phillip du Plessis, who was involved in a car accident in July last year, has not yet returned back to his position.

However, the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) claimed that they were managing the situation at the school.

Asked about Du Plessis’ position at the school and his current condition, the department’s spokesperson Steven Mabona said, “Yes, Mr Du Plessis is still the principal of the school. The department is not in a position to reveal any confidential information of the employees.”

He could not say when Du Plessis would return to work saying this could only be confirmed by a doctor.

Mabona did confirm that the former acting principal Paul Malesela had resigned the last term citing personal reasons and that Seetha Naidoo had taken up that position.

Due to the school’s financial woes, the governing body has called for local investors to support the institution.

And it seems the dire situation is also affecting the learners after the matric Class of 2018 dropped two per cent from the previous year’s final exam mark of 91 per cent to 89 per cent.

Details: Sandringham High School 011 640 3047.
