Johannesburg police arrest two robbers

JOHANNESBURG – The suspects robbed their victim and took his bag containing a laptop.

Two men were arrested by the Johannesburg police for allegedly robbing a man using a toy gun on 3 October.

This according to the spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele.

He reported that the 24- and 30-year-old suspects were arrested on the corner of Marshall and Loveday streets in the Johannesburg CBD.

“It is alleged that the two suspects robbed a 30-year-old male coming from work. The victim was on his way to catch a taxi home when he was confronted by the suspects. One of them pointed a firearm at him and his accomplice took his bag with a laptop and an iPhone handset,” said Mbele.

The victim apparently screamed for help and officers who were on foot patrol, came to his rescue and apprehended the suspects and recovered his belongings.

“They also recovered a firearm [toy gun] used in the commission of the crime,” added Mbele.

An investigation is still underway and the suspects are expected to appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
