R14 million of counterfeit goods confiscated in Joburg CBD

JOBURG CBD – Gauteng police executed a search warrant at China Multiplex storage facilities during the weekend.

Over the weekend, the Gauteng police with brand holders executed a search warrant at China Multiplex storage facilities across the Johannesburg CBD and confiscated an estimated R14.2 million worth of different products and brands.

Brigadier Mathapelo Peters of the Gauteng police said, “Follow-up operations saw police search more storage units where police confiscated a lot more goods that include the usual clothing and shoes of different sports and luxury brands.”

No suspects were arrested during the operation, some of the products included shoe polish, razor blades, hair extension pieces, hair-dye, skin lightening cream, deodorants, condoms, baking powder, yeast, spices, cigarettes, light bulbs and viagra tablets.

Peters said the police were shifting their focus from illegal traders to focusing on the manufacturing and distribution points. “It is yielding success as at this point, operations have led to the shutting down of a number of manufacturers and points of supply, especially in Johannesburg CBD,” he added.
