Bedfordview Lions Club’s members embarks on a clean police station campaign

SANDRINGHAM – 'It would be great if the community could join the club to assist in upgrading their police station's environment.'

On 6 July, the Bedfordview Lions Club partnered with Ward 81 councillor Irene Rugheimer and cleaned up the garden at the Sandringham Police Station as their Mandela Day project.

Rugheimer said the club feels that as their local police are expected to deliver a service to the community, they also deserve to have a good working environment.

Their work place is not decent or well kept, said the councillor.

“We all like to work where we are comfortable and in nice surroundings, yet we are not interested in the environment that our service providers work in,” Rugheimer said.

“Yes, it is not our responsibility as the community, however, it is to our advantage if the working environment is neat and clean. When our policemen and women feel cared for, valued, acknowledged, and respected, they give their 100 per cent effort and commitment in return.”

The workplace environment influences employees’ productivity, performance and well-being, she added.

An appealing workplace, according to Rugheimer, is ideal when it comes to maintaining a positive outcome in a stressful environment.

“The most important thing that influences employee motivation and happiness, and as productive and efficient as they can be, all goes down to their working environment,” she said.

The councillor said it would be great if the community could join the club to assist in upgrading their police station’s environment.

She said window glass needs to be replaced, the building requires painting and various other things adding that if any resident would like to assist they are welcome to contact her.
