Man in police custody for allegedly hitting a Metro officer in Johannesburg CBD
JOHANNESBURG CBD – A case of assault has been opened with the Johannesburg Central Police Station.
Police have arrested a man for allegedly injuring an on-duty Metro police officer in the Johannesburg CBD on 18 June.
Constable Constance Lelimo, the acting spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station said the 35-year-old male suspect was part of a group of people who had a scuffle with the police on the corner of Wonderers and De Villiers streets. “It is alleged that the Metro police officers was performing her duties, enforcing City of Johannesburg’s by-laws when a group of people attack them. The situation got out of hand and the suspect [allegedly] injured a Metro police officer on her hand.”
A case of assault has been opened with the Johannesburg Central Police Station and an investigation is underway.
The suspect has since appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
