Sandringham police urge people to help identify dead man

SANDRINGHAM – Only one person has come forward to identify the body, but there has been no confirmation.

Sandringham police are still searching for the family of a man who was recently found on the N3 highway between the Marlboro and London off-ramps.

As published in the North Eastern Tribune [Week ending 17 May], the man was found on 26 April, alive but badly injured, by a passerby who notified the police. He was then rushed to Edenvale Hospital, where, according to the police, he later died from his injuries.

Sandringham police spokesperson Captain Mohlaume Mamabolo said that since the story was published in the Tribune, one person has come forward.

“We sent the person to the government mortuary where the body is kept,” said Mamabolo. “We’re waiting for him to come back and let us know if it’s his relative or not. We request that people still come forward if they have information because we have not yet identified the body.”

The deceased was wearing blue overall with a green T-shirt underneath and black boots.

The police also request people who might have witnessed what happened to the man to come forward. Mamabolo said they are investigating a case of murder.

“We urge anyone to assist us with information, to ensure that the perpetrators face the full might of the law.”

For any information, contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Matsobane Galane on 082 691 1961.
