Body of a baby/toddler trapped in a storm water drain can’t be recovered
NEW DOORNFONTEIN – A baby has fallen into a stormwater drain in New Doornfontein.
The search for a baby or toddler trapped in a storm water drain was called off.
Vision Tactical units, Metro police, fire operations and emergency services responded to the scene in New Doornfontein on 15 May.
Metro police spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said it was not clear yet whether it was a baby, a toddler or a child as no body was found but the information would be released once it became available.
“It’s understood that a [baby] fell and got stuck in a storm water drain along City and Suburban Road,” said Vision Tactical in a statement.

Vision Tactical said visual and audio equipment were used to try and locate the body trapped in the storm water drain.
The exact cause of the incident is still unknown.
