Johannesburg Flying Squad arrests nine suspects for different crimes

JOHANNESBURG – All the arrested suspects are expected in court soon.

 


Johannesburg Flying Squad police officers arrested nine suspects for different crimes in different areas of Johannesburg.

The arrest were made during their routine patrols between 26 and 29 April, according to the unit’s spokesperson, Sergeant Desmond Subramoney.

Subramoney said they also recovered stolen and hijacked vehicles, as well as unlicensed firearms with their serial numbers filed off.

“During their routine patrol duties, officers arrested five suspects for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and business robbery, one suspect was arrested for theft of motor vehicle,” said Subramoney.

“They also arrested one suspect for assault, two others were held for possession of hijacked vehicles. Our officers also recovered two stolen vehicles, four hijacked vehicles and two unlicensed 9mm pistols.”

He added that the stolen and hijacked vehicles recovered include a Ford Ranger, two VW Polos, a Kia Picanto, Toyota HiAce and Toyota Siyaya.

Subramoney applauded the flying squad members and urged the public to work with the police by reporting crime in their areas.

“We want the public to continue to collaborate with the police by reporting crime and any suspicious persons and activities.”

All the nine suspects, aged between 20 and 40, are expected to appear soon in the different magistrate’s courts facing different charges.
