Bramley Police Station’s spokesperson advises robbery of cell phone safety tips

BRAMLEY– These tips can help you to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to cell phone crimes.

Due to the rise of cellular crimes in the area, the head of communication at Bramley Police Station, Captain Molefe Mogodi urged community members to be extra vigilant when walking or commuting.

Mogodi said, “We are appealing to the community to be vigilant when using cellular phones. It has come to the attention of the station that our community is being robbed of their belongings, particularly cell phones. In a few instances, the victims were robbed of the phones while walking in the streets.”

He explained that a number of cases of robbery occur when the victims are busy using their cell phone and gave the following tips help residents to avoid falling prey to such crime:

  • Do not use your phone while walking unless it is necessary and if so, look around and take care.
  • If you are in a shop or restaurant and have called a taxi, please wait inside until the taxi arrives. Never stand out in the street to wait for the taxi.
  • Avoid talking on your cell phone while driving, or if you are in the passenger seat. Criminals can grab your cell phone while you are talking and run away.
  • Do not plug in earphones to your cell phones and listen to music whilst walking in the street.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings.

“Report all suspicious people or vehicles in your neighbourhood. Help Bramley police in creating a safer precinct to live for its community,” Mogodi concluded.
