Gunners to seek the services of witch doctor to cleanse the spell of bad luck

ALEXANDRA -– A string of bad results have left the technical staff of Gunners baffled as to what the cause may be.

After a string of bad results in the SAB League, Gunners are now considering the services of a witch doctor to cleanse the team of their spell of bad luck.

“I don’t what to say and do now. This team [Gunners] has had a string of bad results such that I think maybe we should consider hiring the services of a witch doctor to come and cleanse the team of this spell of bad luck,” said one of the Gunners technical staff Mpendulo Gegani.

His comments followed another loss the team suffered, this time at the hands of Diepsloot Arsenal during their SAB League encounter at the Alexandra Stadium on 10 March. In this game, Gunners were thrashed 3–1 in their own backyard.

“We have the material [players], we train hard but we just don’t seem to find the back of the net to secure a win for the team. We dominate teams, create the chances but the ball does not end in the back of the net and I have no answers for all this,” Gegani said.

Although it was more of a game of two halves, Arsenal dominated the entire first half and managed to score two goals to no reply from the Gunners.

The Arsenal goals came through the boot of Authority Gidi, who, like his name stamped his authority on the game and scored a brace while the third was an own goal from Gunners skipper, Mpho ‘Shimza’ Mogashoa, who chested the ball past his keeper into the back of the net.

Gunners’ consolation goal came via a penalty after Mavhungu ‘Venda’ Matamela was fouled inside the box by Arsenal keeper Ongany Matshete, who was subsequently red-carded for the foul play and dissent.

Thamie Mphuthi of Gunners put his hand up to take the penalty kick and made no mistake, giving the Alex outfit some little cheer. In an effort to bolster the strike force upfront, Gunners took off the out-of-form Thokozani ‘Majaqamba’ Nyathi and replaced him with Nkosinathi ‘Mtsiri’ Hlongwane.

Hlongwane gave his team some rhythm and pace up front but it was too little too late. Gunners coach Stanley Makhubela quickly left the stadium in a hurry for a board meeting, after which he said they had resolved to support the boys and keep working hard to ensure their survival in the league.

His counterpart at Arsenal, Ngoako Ramolesana said he was delighted to have finally turned the corner after many weeks of struggling to secure a win. “We were here last week against Malandela Mighty Heroes and only managed a draw. We were super in the first half but ran out of steam in the second but I am still happy we secured a win,” he said.
