Gang terrorising people in Joubert Park – schoolboy is robbed in broad daylight

JOUBERT PARK – Police believe a criminal syndicate is operating in Joubert Park after numerous street robberies have been captured on CCTV.

Hillbrow Police Station believes that there is a gang terrorising people in Joubert Park.

This after a schoolboy was robbed in broad daylight and hit by an unknown object by one of four suspects on 21 February.

Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo of Hillbrow police said the video which is circulating widely on social media was posted by the Intelligence Bureau of South Africa.

Video discretion is advised for sensitive viewers:

Zondo added, ” As seen in the video there were between four to five suspects, the boy was hit with an unknown object… it is an ongoing investigation.”

He said police visited the scene after the incident. “Witnesses said the boy had gotten up and he walked to get a taxi but never went to the police station to open a case.”

The police are still viewing the CCTV footage and taking the case very seriously.

There was a similar incident in the same area two weeks ago where a man was robbed of his cell phone. Two suspects were arrested and were still in police custody, Zondo said.

The police believe there is a gang operating in the area as the robberies are similar and have been occurring in the same place frequently.

He pleaded with victims to come forward.
