Norwood police officers arrest suspect after attempted robbery

ORANGE GROVE – A suspect was arrested by patrolling Norwood police officers after an attempted robbery.

 


One suspect appeared in court after he was arrested for attempted robbery on 24 January.

According to the spokesperson of Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase, Constable Norman Sithole and Constable Katlego Ndabandaba were patrolling the Orange Grove area around 8am when they were approached by community members who alerted them of the attempted robbery at a nearby supermarket.

“When the officers got to the scene they managed to catch the suspect in the act. The suspect noticed the officers and attempted to run which led to the officers firing three warning shots. He then stopped immediately and was arrested.”

Tshivhase stated that when the suspect was searched, the officers found him to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The suspect was arrested for attempted business robbery and was then detained at the police station.”

The suspect appeared in Alexander Magistrates’ Court on 28 January.
