Joburg Central police seek community assistance in robbery case

NEWTOWN – Police are appealing to the anyone with information of the whereabouts of the suspects in the photos to come forward.

The Johannesburg Central police are calling on the community for information regarding an armed robbery that took place in Newtown on 17 August.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central police, Captain Xoli Mbele, said that the incident took place at the U-Save Shoprite on the corner of Jeppe and Fraser Street.

He added that it is alleged that the suspects entered the store posing as customers as it was about to close. They pointed a firearm at a female security guard and took her to the cash office.

He said, “They took an undisclosed amount of money and cartons of cigarettes before they fled the scene.”

Police are appealing to the anyone with information of the whereabouts of the suspects in the photos to contact Johannesburg Central Detective Constable Lucky Chauke on 073 444 6456.
