Thembalami enjoy nature

LOMBARDY EAST – The Thembalami Care Centre residents enjoyed a nature walk on 28 September.

The residents of Thembalami Care Centre enjoyed a nature walk on 28 September after the completion of their beautiful new gardens and a lapa.

Spokesperson for the Rand Aid Centre Cathy Grosvenor said, “Research is increasingly showing that a walk a day keeps the doctor away. Just a small dose of nature every day will benefit people’s mood, self-esteem and mental health, a new study by the University of Essex has shown.”

She added that the beautifully landscaped grounds and outdoor setting at the Thembalami Care Centre in Lombardy East have given their residents a wonderful place to take in nature’s wonders.

The residents and staff at the complex enjoyed their beautiful ground’s sights and smell at a recently held nature walk organised by their occupational therapy department.

Grosvenor said the walk gave participants a chance to interact with nature. While ambling through the grounds and on to the veggie garden, participants were asked to identify and name certain trees and plants along the route.

Grounds assistant Amon Maluleke had set up a table of freshly-picked vegetables and herbs grown at Thembalami and residents were given the opportunity to feel, smell and identify the produce.

Social worker at the Care Centre Lara Hurwitz said, “The walk finished at the new lapa where tea and biscuits were served. Pastor John Nel gave a beautiful sermon to end off a very pleasant morning of sunshine and fresh air.”
