Remedial work done on Orchards Clinic

ORANGE GROVE – Progress has been made at Orchards Clinic as the remedial work has been completed.

After months of corrective construction, the Johannesburg Development Agency has announced the remedial works to the Orchards Clinic in Orange Grove have been completed.

The construction of the clinic was suspended in March last year due to a structural problem with the infrastructure. The agency initiated an investigation and consulted a specialist engineer to develop a solution to strengthen poorly designed elements in the clinic.

The JDA has started a claim process against the previous engineer’s professional indemnity cover which is still ongoing.

Spokesperson for the JDA Susan Monyai said, “A new engineer was appointed to the project to create a design solution for construction as a corrective measure. The strengthening of the structure began in February 2018 with additional steel support added to the building structure to create the desired support.”

She added, “Remedial works at Orchards Clinic are now complete and construction is due to start again in mid-October 2018. Due to the remedial works, Orchards Clinic is now anticipated to be completed early 2019. “

Chief Executive at the agency Christo Botes said, “Our construction team has been working tirelessly to ensure that the structure complies with the new structural design. We have added additional steel beams and columns throughout the building to create a stronger structure and we are confident that the construction of the clinic can now continue.”
