Highlands North frustrated by cable theft
HIGHLANDS NORTH – A high number of cable theft incidents have left Highlands North residents in the dark.
Residents in Highlands North have expressed concern following a number of power outages stemming from cable theft in the area.
One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said that the criminals utilise the Sandspruit as an entry point. The spruit runs past the Highlands North Bowling Club and the criminals supposedly cut open the fencing to access the street, steal the cabling in the area and escape through the spruit again.

Residents have even placed cable ties around the gates of the bowling club to secure it.
The theft has caused much frustration with residents in the area, who have experienced numerous power outages in the past two years. Ward 74 councillor David Fisher confirmed the problems that the Highlands North residents have been struggling with.
He said that it was a long-running issue in the area, with the last outage from cable theft occurring on 31 August between Jauncy and Hamyln streets.
He added that City Power and Metro police are working together to prevent the high number of cable theft incidents in the area.
The North Eastern Tribune is still waiting for a comment from City Power.
