DA open a case against former SASSA minister Bathabile Dlamini – VIDEO

JOBURG – They had given President Cyril Ramaphosa until Friday (5 October) to remove Dlamini from his cabinet.

The Democratic Alliance has officially opened a case of gross negligence and recklessness against the former minister of the Department of South African Social Services, Bathabile Dlamini, at the Johannesburg Central Police Station on 3 October.

This follows last week’s finding by the Constitutional Court that Dlamini lied under oath in the matter regarding the social grants crisis.

Opening the case, shadow minister and DA member of parliament, Bridget Masango said they wanted the minister to be held accountable for the matter. She added that the party believed the minister had a case to answer in terms of the evidence she gave under oath and there was a doubt that it had been the truth.

“We want to hold the minister to account and also we want to show the minister that for a long time she has gone without being accountable and she is a minister in this country, and she is also not fit for the position,” said Masango.

She added that they had given President Cyril Ramaphosa until Friday (5 October) to remove Dlamini from his cabinet.

“We will also consider other parliamentary processes to force the president to remove minister Dlamini from her position as a minister in government.”
