Liberty College expressed pride in their students who took part in The Star High School Quiz competition.
The school sent three teams to take part in the competition which was launched by The Star newspaper and Varsity College on 13 August at Crawford College Sandton. The competition saw the students reading The Star newspapers for three weeks before the event. They were then quizzed on the various topics such as politics, entertainment and sport.
Spokesperson for the school, Nkululeko Ndlovu said, “From the Grade 9 students we made three teams… One of our teams made it through and will be competing at Varsity College in Midrand on 1 September.”
Principal of the school, Dumisani Radebe said, “Of course its every principal’s pride to see your learners doing so well. It’s also such an amazing opportunity for them to develop as individuals. It will help them with their self-confidence.”
Member of the school team that will be going through, Nozipho Mabaso said they read the papers and worked really hard for the competition. “We are so happy we are going through but we have to work even harder to get the grand prize.”
The regional competition will be held on 1 September while the finals will be held on 27 September. The winning school will receive R20 000 and a Varsity College bursary worth R15 000. Each team member will receive R2 000.
The runner-up school will receive R10 000 and each team member will receive R1 000.
