A school in Orchard was cleaned out of computer equipment worth more than R16 000 when thieves broke in and helped themselves to whatever they could lay their hands on.
Items stolen during the night of 18 July from the Orchard Primary School, corner of Orange and Sunside roads, included computers, laptops, phones, CCTV systems, telephones and tablets, amounting to R16 140.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson Captain Elliot Tshivhase said the principal had left the school round about 3.30 pm on 18 July and everything was in order and all doors and windows closed, secured and locked.
He was surprised when he arrived at the school the following morning to find the doors and the main security gate leading up to the administration block within the building open and all computer-related equipment missing.
Several offices and doors had been broken into and a registration fee of R3 000 was also gone. The stolen items and damage to property was estimated at R74 000.

Tshivhase said no arrests have been made yet and his officers are hard at work in their investigation. He appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
