A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of raping his girlfriend in Mayfair at 2am on 18 July.
Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele said, “It is alleged that the suspect raped his 29-year old girlfriend at Galaxy Tower Hotel on the corner of Commercial and Lillian Ngoyi streets on 17 July at 9pm.
“The victim received a call from her boyfriend to come and see him because he had a surprise for her. She took a meter taxi and when she arrived at the hotel he told her how much he missed her.”
Mbele said that an argument ensued, and the boyfriend told her to do what he wants or he would kill her. He allegedly assaulted and raped her. He then called a meter taxi to take her home.
The victim went directly to the police station and opened a case.
An investigation is underway and the suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court.
