Shave to remember Mandela

NEWTOWN – The Shave to Remember campaign celebrated Mandela's values, and iconic haircut, on 30 June.

The legacy and haircut of Nelson Mandela were celebrated through the Shave to Remember event hosted at Mary Fitzgerald Square.

The event which took place on 30 June was initiated by the Mandela Foundation alongside Philips SA and saw local Johannesburg residents come through for a general haircut or to embrace Madiba’s legacy by mimicking the path hairstyle he donned during his youth.

Project manager at the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Lesego Maforah said, “Shave to Remember is one of our centenary campaigns. We as a foundation are trying to help South Africans remember Madiba through his values and his personal life lessons.”

Maforah added that through the image of a young Mandela, they are targeting the youth of South Africa to ignite them to consider what their values are and what Madiba’s values were. “Madiba’s legacy stands true even today, so that’s why we decided to partner with Philips during this centenary to drive a campaign that helps people remember using something that is easy to do, which is doing an iconic shave which shows how you feel about our country and Madiba’s legacy.”
