Four suspects arrested for serious crimes

JOHANNESBURG – All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in court.

Johannesburg police have arrested four suspects for murder and for pointing a firearm in separate incidents.

In a murder incident that took place on the corner of Quartz and Goldreich streets, Hillbrow police reported that three murder suspects were arrested on 13 March.

The spokesperson for the Hillbrow Police Station, Sergeant Mduduzi Zondo, said police received a tip-off from the community with a description of the suspects.

“Our officers drove around tracing the suspects and were then spotted on the corner of Tudhope and Barnato streets in Berea,” said Zondo.

“One of the suspects pulled out a firearm and attempted to shoot at the police. The police, however, shot the suspect before he could pull the trigger.”

All suspects were arrested and Zondo said the injured suspect is currently under police guard in a local hospital.

A firearm and ammunition were recovered and the suspects were arrested and face a charge of murder and are expected to appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile, Johannesburg Central police also report that a 34-year-old security guard has been arrested for pointing a firearm.

The incident took place on the corner of De Villiers and Hoek streets next to the Universal Church on 12 March.

“It appears that a victim was taking photos of the church when a security guard approached him and told him he’s not allowed to take the photos of the church.

“In his response, the victim told the security guard that he was given a permission by a priest but the guard went ahead and pushed him, damaged his phone and pointed a firearm at him,” said Johannesburg Central Police Station’s spokesperson, Constable Constance Lelimo.

The firearm was confiscated and an investigation revealed that it belongs to a security company that he is working for, she said.

An investigation is underway and the suspect will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
