On 21 March, a police officer who was patrolling the Johannesburg north-east suburb received information of a complaint on 7th Avenue and attended to it.

Upon his arrival, a spokesperson for the Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase, said the landlord told the officer there was a dead woman’s body in her rented cottage.

“The body was discovered by the family of a deceased man who had apparently hanged himself at work,” said Tshivhase.

“The family was notified of his passing and they went to his rented cottage and that was when they made the discovery. The deceased woman was wrapped in a sheet behind the bed and had a deep wound on her neck.”

It is not clear what the motive for the murder was and the subsequent suicide, however, Tshivhase said investigations are underway.

He also said the instrument used to murder the deceased woman has still not been recovered.

“Currently we have nothing! Not even a murder weapon to support our investigation.”
