Sewing school begins

PARKTOWN – The Union of Jewish Women Sewing School have a new group of students.

The Union of Jewish Women in Johannesburg welcomed a new group of students to their Parktown Sewing School on 1 March.

The school was established to give unemployed women and men the opportunity to begin their own businesses. Executive Director of the union, Cindy Kree said, “With thanks to the generosity of various donors, the school has been equipped with sewing machines, a plethora of fabrics and all the accoutrements of a professional sewing school.”

The course runs for a four-month period, where students learn all the basics of sewing and end by being able to make clothing and other items, ultimately allowing the students to be in a position where they can support themselves.

Kree added, “We currently still have space for more students, please contact the UJW’s office for more information on 011 648 1053.”

The Union of Jewish Women are currently looking for a new venue for the sewing school, and are appealing to businesses or community centres that may have space for the school to please contact Cindy Kree on 011 648 1053 or email projects@ujw.co.za
