The police are requesting the assistance of the community to help them with information that will lead to the arrest of the suspect.
The spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police Station, Captain Xoli Mbele, said the incident took place on 9 October, and the suspect is still at large. “A 30-year-old woman who was driving a white VW Jetta 5 was waiting for her friend to open the gate for her on 8th Street in the La Rochelle area when the suspect approached them. He pointed a firearm at her before robbing them and hijacking the car,” said Mbele.
“The suspect robbed the driver and her friend of their cellphones and forced her out of the car. The suspect then got into the car and drove off. The car was later recovered with the help of a tracker.”
The victim said the hijacker is short in height and of medium body weight, between 30 and 35 years old and possibly a foreign national.
“Police are appealing to the community and to anyone with information that could help lead them to the suspect,” said Mbele.
