Joburg East parks will be litter-free this festive season

Joburg City Parks and Zoo promises to ensure that your picnic spot at your favourite park will be clean and ready for you to laze your days away during the festive season holidays.

The custodians of Joburg Zoo, the city’s parks, cemeteries, designated open spaces, reserves and street trees, has its litter- picking plan in place at all its flagship parks across the city.

The entity said its themed parks will offer some of the best outdoor experiences in the city with long stretches of green lawns, leafy trees, play equipment for the little ones, braai and seating areas.

“The frequent use of parks this time of year naturally generates more litter than usual,” said Bukelwa Njingolo, the acting managing director of Joburg City Parks and Zoo

Njingolo, however, said the entity has, across all regions, secured litter-free, clean, green and friendly parks for its residents throughout the festive season.

She urges residents to discard their litter into the bins provided and refrain from disposing of hot ashes next to trees and on lawns.

Provision is made for braaing for the safety and well-being of park users and our environment, added Njingolo.

The litter-picking maintenance plan forms part of the Executive Mayor, Councillor Herman Mashaba’s call to action aligned to the citywide A Re Sebetseng clean-up programme, the plan is to work together with citizens in keep Joburg clean.

“Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo’s litter-picking maintenance schedules across the City will ensure that those of us who will be staying home for the holidays, enjoy clean, litter-free and friendly parks,” said Njingolo.
