Who receives my blood when I donate?

JOBURG - Find out who receives your blood when you donate.

Did you know that whether you’re O-, B+ or AB+ your blood can save up to three lives which makes donating blood the ultimate gift to both the recipient and his or her family.

According to the South African Blood Services, thousands of people would die daily if there was insufficient quality blood in stock.  As a result, community members must develop a habit of donating blood in order for the service to collect sufficient stock and ensure that there is quality blood available for emergencies.

Donors can donate blood every 56 days. A regular donor is someone who has made three or more donations in a year.

This blood is given to premature babies, patients undergoing surgical operations, patients with cancer or leukaemia, children with severe anaemia, accident victims and women in labour who have complications during pregnancy.
