Doornfontein – The suspects tried to flee but police managed to corner and arrest all of them.

The spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyai said this on 9 November adding that the suspects were arrested for possession of stolen goods.

Munyai said the suspects broke into an MTN cellphone network store and stole some valuables including valve-regulated lead-acid batteries.

He said their police received information that the suspects would be delivering the batteries in Doornfontein. The police kept watch and spotted a black Audi Q7 approaching and a white Hyundai bakkie following it.

“The cars stopped and the occupants approached a person whom they intended to sell the batteries to,” said Munyai.

“The police approached the cars and asked to search the bakkie. The suspects got out of the cars and tried to run away but the police gave chase and managed to arrest them.”

MTN staff was informed and they positively identified the batteries, saying they belong to their company.

The suspects were then arrested and the stolen goods, as well as their cars, were confiscated and taken to Jeppe Police Station.
