ORANGE GROVE – Police urges motorists to apply more caution and avoid becoming victims of hijacking

An Orange Grove woman was allegedly hijacked by two men on 26 October while on her way to work.

According to the spokesperson for Norwood Police Station, Captain Elliot Tshivhase, the victim was reversing her car on her driveway when two suspects allegedly approached her.

Tshivhase said the victim was on her way to work when the suspects allegedly threatened her with a firearm.

“They then pulled her out of the car and drove away with it. The car was later recovered in Alexandra, however, it was still intact and there were no visible damages to the car. They only took the valuables that were inside the car including a laptop.”

The car was recovered on the corner of Roosevelt Street and 16 Avenue in Alexandra.

The suspects are still at large and police have launched a manhunt and urged the community to assist with information that might lead to their arrest.

The police have urged motorists to always apply caution and avoid being targeted by car thieves.

Tshivhase said hijackings in Joburg east suburbs are on the high and the police are doing their best to fight this unlawful act.
