Norwood police are investigating two separate incidents of robberies that took place in the Joburg east suburbs on different dates.
Various house robberies have recently been reported in the North Eastern Tribune distribution area involving female victims. The robberies usually occur while the women are at home.
On 29 August, a Highlands North woman who lives in Metcalf Avenue was robbed of valuables estimated to cost about R23 000.
According to the Norwood Police Station spokesperson Captain Elliot Tshivhase, the victim was robbed of expensive valuables including two laptops, two Samsung cellphones, a TV set and folding knives which are valued at about R23 000 in total.

“It all started when she heard her house’s intercom and went to check but there was no one on the gate,” said Tshivhase.
“She noticed that there was a white Nissan 4×4 bakkie outside her house. She went back into her house and the bakkie drove away.
“While she was inside her house, busy on her laptop, an unknown man [walked into] her bedroom, holding a weapon,” said Tshivhase. The victim couldn’t describe what kind of a weapon it was.
The man threatened her before he took her valuables. She was not injured.
In a separate incident that took place on 16 August, an Orange Grove woman was also robbed in her house.
Tshivhase said the woman also heard her intercom ringing and checked who it was on her security camera. She noticed a man standing next to her gate and did not open the gate for him. Her helper was outside in the yard.

“Suddenly she saw the helper coming into the house with two unknown men, and by that time, she was in her bedroom. The two men forced themselves into the bedroom and covered her with a blanket,” said Tshivhase.
The suspects took a Samsung plasma TV, a DStv decoder, a sound system, her makeup and an amount of R400 which was in her bag.
All the valuables are estimated to be worth R40 000, said Tshivhase. No arrests have been made but investigations are underway.
