Joburg East Cluster police arrest 82 suspects for serious crimes

JOHANNESBURG – Police and community work together to make arrests.

The Joburg East Cluster police arrested 82 suspects between 14 and 20 August for various crimes ranging from murder to rape.

According to the cluster police spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai, the police stations under the cluster worked extremely hard to make all the arrests.

He said police praised the Joburg East community for continuing to work with them and giving them information when they noticed suspicious activity.

The arrested are as follow:

  • 1 for murder
  • 1 for shoplifting
  • 1 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for armed robbery
  • 1 for defeating the ends of justice
  • 1 for possession of a hijacked truck
  • 1 for dealing in liquor
  • 1 for attempted theft of a motor vehicle
  • 2 for malicious damage to property
  • 2 for rape
  • 2 for common robbery
  • 2 for intimidation
  • 2 for possession of dagga
  • 2 for theft of copper
  • 2 for pointing a firearm
  • 4 for possession of unlicensed firearms
  • 6 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • 6 for theft
  • 9 for possession of stolen goods
  • 10 for assault common
  • 25 for drunk driving.

“Most of the suspects have already appeared in different courts while others are yet to appear. Some of them paid fines and bail while others remain in police custody due to further investigation,” said Munyai.

“The police will continue playing its role by arresting those who are caught against the law.”
