Andre’s Taekwondo Academy wins big at the Arnold Classic

NORWOOD – 14 students of the academy won 46 medals at the Arnold Classic

The Norwood-based Andre’s Taekwondo Academy competed in this year’s Arnold Classic and won 46 medals.

Owner and chief instructor of the academy Andre van Tonder said 14 of his students achieved competed in the martial arts division. He added, “It was hard work for all of us but so worth it. I couldn’t be prouder of my students who gave their all to impress the judges. The best feeling in the world is not when you win but when your students do so well. No student of mine took less than two medals and one even took six medals.”

He added that there were about 600 competitors over the three-day event with his 14 students picking up 11 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze.

Students from the academy who won gold included Aron Cohen who received an impressive three medals, Da’el Basserabie, Shaina Resnik and Eden Leibowitz picked up one each and Aiden Cohen-Louw was awarded two.

Van Tonder showed his students how it is done by winning three gold medals.

“We recently added dedicated Taekwondo classes for special needs children to our programme. The response from both parents and students has been incredible,” Van Tonder concluded.
