More woes on 7th Avenue Street lights
It becomes so dark at night you can't even see your gate.
The North Eastern Tribune has reliably learned that some street lights in 7th Avenue in Highlands North are still dysfunctional even though City Power promised to fix them.
This follows an article published in the paper recently, where lights were reported to have been on since August 2016 and are never turned off, even during the day.
When contacted, City of Joburg power utility City Power said the lights have been fixed blaming illegal connections and vandals as the main cause of lights not working properly.
Angela Davidson, a resident in the area, said the lights next to her house and other houses nearby, are not working properly. She said their lights, on the corner of 7th Avenue and Joseph Street, are never on, which leaves the area dark, late in the evening. She added that she doesn’t even remember when their street lights were ever on because they haven’t worked for a long time. She said, “It’s even worse when it’s dark and you can’t even see your gate. We learned through your article published in your paper that some of the lights were fixed but ours still remain out of order,” she said.
City Power has blamed the problem on people who vandalises infrastructure as well as people who connect to the grid, illegally. City Power’s spokesperson, Sydney Mphahlele has been contacted for comment and the story will be updated as soon as his feedback is received.
