Care centre in need of volunteers.

LYNDHURST – Volunteers needed to care for the elderly.

Rand Aid’s Ron Smith Care Centre in Lyndhurst is looking for volunteers.

The centre offers loving and quality care to 160 elderly and frail residents, as well as a specialised dementia unit for people living with Alzheimer’s disease.

The centre’s volunteers play a huge role in helping to create a life-affirming, caring environment and add significantly to the quality of life and general well-being of every resident.

Rand Aid’s manager for recreational programmes, Debbie Christen said, “Recently our volunteer complement decreased due to poor health and other personal issues, and we are currently in need of a number of volunteer tasks to be filled.”

The benefits of working with older people include having the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life, receiving genuine appreciation and gratitude and a new perspective on life.

  • To take the book trolley around regularly to all the residents on the wings.
  • To assist with high tea events every second month and with other special events.
  • To assist with the sensory stimulation programme for residents living with dementia.
  • To build relationships and get to know individuals by visiting specific residents regularly on a one-on-one basis.
