Cleaning up illegal rubble in Ward 72

LINKSFIELD – Illegal dumping is still a huge problem in Region E.

Region E, in partnership with Pikitup, recently organised a clean-up on Club Street in Linksfield to remove the illegally dumped rubble.

This area of Linksfield, especially between Linksfield Drive, George Avenue and Swemmer Road in Sandringham, and Silvamonte, has been targeted for illegal dumping by contractors. The illegal debris is mainly building rubble.

On the opposite side of Pikitup depot in Sandringham is a site which belongs to the Gauteng Provincial Government. The location spreads across Sizwe Hospital up to the N3 highway. This is where the illegal dumping has increased rapidly.

Ward 72 councillor Steven Kruger said, “Recently there have been new cases of dumping of rubble next to the golf course, particularly on the sidewalks of Club Street. The illegal dumpers seem to be getting entrance from the traffic light at Club Street and Linksfield Drive or Civin Drive in Linksfield,” said Kruger.

“A consideration should be taken in addressing this gap by barricading it off as a measure to avert more dumping in the area.”

Kruger also added that members of the public are urged to report illegal dumping and, if possible, to include registration details of the vehicle used during illegal dumping by perpetrators.
