Marx shines at World Champs

NORWOOD – Local resident shines at World Championships in Canada.

Obstacle course racing (OCR) athlete and Norwood resident, Carina Marx, competed at the World Obstacle Race Championships in Ontario, Canada.

Obstacle course racing is a sport in which a competitor must overcome various physical challenges on foot.

The Obstacle Course World Championships took place at Blue Mountain Resort in Canada in October and attracted more than 4 000 athletes from 43 countries.

Three Jeep team athletes qualified and were selected for team South Africa.

It was a tough but very rewarding experience for Jeep team athletes, Thomas van Tonder, Jay Jay Deysel and Marx.
Marx said it was a great opportunity for her to be tested against the best in the world.
“I can truly say it was a big learning curve having to compete internationally, and for a first-timer, I am very pleased with my achievement,” Marx added.
She finished in 12th position out of 103 professional  women challengers, in a phenomenal time of 2:18:27.

Marx thanked everyone who helped her through this journey with special mention given to Evox of Ascendis Health, the Jeep team and the South Africa Obstacle course racing.

“I will be taking part again next year to help improve my results. Well done to everyone from South Africa who took part. Regardless of the results, I am sure we all learnt a lot,” said Marx.
