Highlands Park Football Club based in Gemmel Park in Linksfield recently hosted a juniors tournament which saw various clubs from across Gauteng take part.
The tournament was organised by Judit Sassu and Debbie Ilouze to help raise funds for the club. “The tournament is usually run once or twice a year to help in raising funds for the club and for the children to have fun,” said Sassu.
More than 20 junior clubs took part in the tournament including Wits, Balfour Juniors, Randburg and Crusaders.
Highlands Park prides itself on being one of the best clubs when it comes to the development of young players, having produced some of the country’s best footballers over the years.
The club has 19 teams in different age groups in the juniors division starting from six years old; and has more than 130 junior soccer players.
The club has nurtured and produced many players who have become some of the best in the country, including Thuso Phala, Daniel Cardoso and Levy Mokgothu who was at the club for six seasons before he went on to join Moroka Swallows and now plays for Kaizer Chiefs.
