Rubbish dumped by the tennis court in Fairmount
FAIRMOUNT – Piles of rubbish at the Fairmount tennis courts are a nightmare for local residents.
A pile of rubbish dumped near the tennis court situated on 29 George Street in Fairmount has left residents fuming as it has been there for almost three months.
According to a resident, Ari Thompson, he has been trying to organise the removal of the rubbish with City of Johannesburg Property Company for the past three months, but to no avail.
“Two weeks ago one of the many people I emailed managed to get some rubbish removed but they never came back. Most of the time nobody even bothers to reply to emails and phone calls unless you complain to a councillor,” he said.
Thompson added that recently someone dumped a toilet on the pavement near the pile of rubbish because the site looked like a dumping site. “The tennis courts are overgrown with weeds, there is a hole in the fence and vagrants climb through it daily to use the field as their toilet. “There are more piles of rubbish inside the property further away from the gate which you can’t see from the street.”
Another resident Joshua Gavronsky said, “As residents, we need an urgent response and there is now an increased security, rodent and further dumping threat bordering our properties.”
In response, Miliswa Bayi of the Property Company said they were working on resolving the issue from their side and will provide feedback on developments.
