Residents cautioned on purchasing goods online

YEOVILLE – Residents warned to remain cautious when using ATMs.

Yeoville police are urging residents to remain cautious and vigilant when making use of an ATM or purchasing and selling goods online.

This stern warning came from Captain Sifiso Mabizela, spokesperson for the Yeoville Police Station, who warned residents against asking strangers for assistance when using an ATM

“We advise members to rather consider withdrawing in a secure place, ask for assistance from security or police personnel or rather make use of Electronic Funds Transfer, cellphone or internet banking to make payments,” he urged.

Mabizela also spoke about buying goods advertised online, urging residents to ensure that they verify all the information with the buyer or seller before depositing any money or delivering any items.

Furthermore, he warned business owners dealing with second-hand goods to refrain from buying suspected stolen goods or from suspicious businesses.

“These suspicious businesses include those whose businesses are unregistered and those businesses which fail to keep proper records of their dealing,” he explained.

Mabizela concluded by urging residents to report any suspicious persons or activities to the police as soon as possible.
