PARKVIEW – Lots of prizes up for grabs at the scariest fun walk.

Parkview Senior Primary will be hosting a 5km Halloween fun run which is open to members of the public of all ages as well as your furry companions on 22 October.

The run will start early at the school grounds and is expected to finish about mid-morning. Road closures are to be expected and marshalls will be on duty throughout the course to ensure the safety of all participants. Breakfast and hot beverages will be on sale at the school, while snacks and water will be available en route for participants and their pets.

Caryl Kelly, the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) chairperson, said they were excited to be joining forces with The Zoo Lake Committee to present a new and exciting family event for the community. She said the event was born from the necessity to raise much-needed funds for the school.

“It’s going to be a lovely walk starting at our school, going around Zoo Lake and back again,” said Kelly.

“We hope to raise enough money through this event for the first phase of a heating and cooling system we want to have installed at the school.” She encouraged other schools to come on board and be part of this unique fun run.

“[Metro police] will also be on hand to offer assistance and support, while the school has also enlisted the on-site support of a number of other community organisations, from the local police force, fire station and paramedic services to restaurants and City Parks,” reads a statement from the school.

Registration for the run will take place on the day at 6.30am, an hour before the first participants will set-off.

Entry fee is R50 for adults and R30 for children, seniors and all dogs.

The school that brings the highest number of entrants will walk away with a R10 000 cash prize. Other fantastic prizes will go to the fastest runners and walkers, the scariest photo, and the best-dressed family, man, woman, child and dog.
